Ginny

Urgent home needed for our small Ginny (or Gynny as in her passport).

In January this year, we agreed to foster sweet Ginny for an organization. Ginny arrived traumatized, scared of everything and everyone. Ginny was resource guarding her food and us, she hid under furniture... We had no information about her past but she arrived with her 2 sister with similar behavioural traits.

Several months later, still with us, Ginny is now our dog. We decided early on that the stichting was overwhelmed, didn't take responsibility and couldn't help Ginny. She would end up in the wrong home, possibly sending her to a shelter after deciding she was "too much work". So we adopted Ginny and we have been working on her ever since!

She is in our loving home with a chihuahua friend. She has a daycare spot at Zeburgereiland's Happy Dogs in Amsterdam. She has clothes, toys, her own special bed. Her teeth are clean and white (we brush them several times per week). She weighs almost 8 kg, fully vaccinated, chipped, has a passport, regularly de-wormed. No allergies or medical issues that we are aware of.

Ginny LOVES the park. She runs like the wind and she listens well and comes straight back when called. She loves playing with most dogs we meet. If she is scared of dogs, she makes herself small and hides between legs, but is never aggressive. With humans, if ignored, she slowly shows interest. She takes treats from new people from the ground and after just one walk, she hopefully eats from their hand and is walked on leash by them! Ginny needs a bit more time to be introduced to new humans and a calmer environment will do wonders for her!

We would like to find a home for her asap because our family is going through health complications that make it hard to have 2 dogs. We are also soon selling our apartment and have no idea what our lives will look like in 3-4 months. Even if all of these practical things would be OK, our other dog is too old for Ginny. He is a 2kg chihuahua with a lot of traumas and his needs are completely different from what Ginny needs. It's hard for us to split our time between two dogs that are complete opposites. Ginny has been 110% happy with us and we adore her. We just want her to find her special human(s).

We want what's best for Ginny, so we will look for a home that will follow these points:
- An experienced home with knowledge in positive reinforcement.
- Keep Ginny insured in OHRA: around 45 Euro per month.
- Give Ginny a happy life with lots of play, excercise but also training.
- No young children.
- Ginny loves dogs! An emotionally stable older dog in the house would help her develop so much!
- You preferably have a garden or live outside of the city center.
- You have a stable economy and can provide some sort of proof.
- You want to stay in touch with us to give us updates on Ginny's journey and we will always be emotional support. As long as we live in Amsterdam, we are also willing to help you babysit Ginny sometimes. <3

Since we have met several individuals that have either cancelled her adoption last minute, or taken up weeks/months of our time, only to drop out, we please ask that you only contact us if you are really ready to adopt. This means that you have time to come and meet Ginny, not once every 14 days, but really build a relationship with her and us. If you are moving, starting a new job or any big life change: that will be too much with a foster dog. We ask to please respect our time, as previous applicants haven't been honest with their intentions...

We will meet in Westerpark the first time. We expect 2-3 meet ups/week. Weekends and evening walkies in Westerpark. After 2 weeks, we would love to hear if you want to continue and then we do a home visit (both ways), you then keep Ginny for a weekend and then we see if it's a match. We sign a small contract and there's the adoption fee.
