Kabouter

Kabouter has been our loving and loyal family member since Sept 2012 when I rescued him from the streets of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He has shared his life with 5 dogs and 4 cats over the years and he had lived with us during our university, young adult, newlywed and parenthood stages. He is a very loving and caring pet to our children, who are 4 and 2 and they have grown up around him since they were born. He is therefore use to animals and children that he knows.

In May 2021 we emigrated to the Netherlands from Durbanville, South Africa, and Kabouter made the move with us. He has been living with us in the Netherlands in apartments with no outside space, a patio and more recently 'n a house with a small backyard. He is very well house trained and he is not fussy about where he sleeps or eats.

The only thing about Kabouter is that he is very protective and he takes a while to warm up to strangers. He can also be difficult to take for walks, because he tends to bark and pull towards other dogs. But overall he is a loving, loyal and very special companion.

Our hearts are broken, as unfortunately we cannot afford to take him with us again as we are emigrating back to South Africa. He is quite old and I'm not sure how many years he may have left, but we have received a clean bill of health from the vet in September 2024 and he is still very active and playful with our children and in/around the house.

Ideally, I think Kabouter would be best suited to rehome to a home without other pets or children; maybe an older couple/person or a younger adult who needs a pet.
