Omschrijving
Peacock is a very loving cat who adores to be pet and cuddled. He got his name from the unique patterns on his fur, which is short but silky soft. He can be shy if he doesn’t know you, only allowing to be seen from a distance, but once he is comfortable, he will be all over your legs and even “melting” when petted – he will fall in your lap or on the floor and start rolling over. He is also quite energetic, preferring more mobility at playtime – he loves to jump while chasing the stick with the hanging toy. He is a high energy kitten but once he spends the energy, he goes to bed for a long nap.
But he didn’t start life in an easy way, that’s why it’s so rewarding to see him being trusting, playful and happy. Peacock (also called Paun in his native Bulgarian) was born as a stray kitten in the streets in Bulgaria and had to fight for his survival pretty much from his birth. He was found by our volunteers, together with several other baby kittens, trying to survive in the garbage bins behind a big hotel. He was a sorry sight, bitten by fleas and malnourished, and it took several weeks of proper care and feeding by a wonderful team of vet volunteers to nurse him back to health. He spent over 4 months living in a shelter cage with his friend Peppermint/Menta, where he was socialized to people and started to build confidence.
Since January 2025, he has been living in a foster home in the Netherlands where he was able to explore, play, get nutritious food and build the habits of living in a home. And he has excelled - still a bit shy but definitely curious, very cuddly, toilet trained, and quite social with other cats. He shows curiosity to go outside but has never been outside a home environment so it’s not clear if he can be an inside-outside cat, so an environment where he can go on a safe terrace or a secured balcony will be preferred.
He is a vocal cat and will tell you what he thinks, especially around mealtimes. He is crazy about treats in any shape, way or form, and he loves food, so it’s easy to help him build the right behaviors and to reward him, and to help him to open up to a new environment and people.
He is good with children, and it’s recommended as a pet for children over 12 years of age as that’s the better fit for him and Peppermint/Menta as an inseparable pair.
Peacock/Paun is neutered, with all current vaccinations, has a chip and an international passport.
We are asking for a 50-euro adoption fee which will be provided to the foster parent for ongoing expenses during his foster care.
