Omschrijving
Peppermint got her name from her beautifully unique tortoise fur. She can be shy at first, but once she trusts you, she is quite a loving kitten – she shows up at the kitchen when the food is being prepared for her meals, rubs on your legs, and looks around with curiosity to see what you have in store for her. You will get the softest short meow (more like ‘’meee”) as she waits for her portion.
She enjoys petting and cuddles while giving content purrs, but is not pressing for attention – she really appreciates it when you give it to her, and also indicates when she thinks it’s petting time. Overall, she has a balanced personality and is not a high energy kitten – she enjoys playing with toys but when she had enough play, she simply leaves, lays down and sleeps. She likes her space and respects yours, so it’s easy to know when to let her be. As a curious kitten, she likes to observe what’s going on from her cat tree where she takes the higher spots, and it’s the place where she lets you pet her for as long as possible.
Peppermint used to fear people as she had a rough start in life. Born as a stray kitten in the streets in Bulgaria, she had to fight for survival and was found by our volunteers in a pretty bad shape at about 6 weeks old. Based on her fearful reactions at that age, they suspect that she had some bad experiences with people, and therefore needs extra patience and love to relax and build trust and confidence in new situations. She was lucky to be part of a group of rescued kittens that were placed in a vet-managed shelter, where she was given proper medical care, nutrition and initial socialization. And another wonderful thing happened there – she was placed in the same cage with Peacock/Paun, one of the rescued kittens, who became her protector and friend – he grooms her, looks for her if she is not around, and is her best playmate. Now they are inseparable.
Since January 2025, Peppermint (also called Menta in her native Bulgarian) has been living in a foster home in the Netherlands and has built confidence to be with new people and other cats, learned the ins and outs of home life, and the enjoyment of being petted and cuddled. She is more of a house cat but will be happy at the opportunity to get fresh air on a secured balcony or outdoor space. She has been living with other cats in foster care and gets along with them without any issues.
She is a better fit for children over 12 years of age due to being easily scared by sudden movements and sounds, especially during the adaptation period. She will be a wonderful pet friend to a loving person or a family who understand her story and have the patience to give her the love and gentle attention so she can show her huge loving heart and grateful personality.
Peppermint is neutered, with all current vaccinations, has a chip and an international passport.
We are asking for a 50-euro adoption fee which will be provided to the foster parent for ongoing expenses during her foster care.
