Rigby

Rigby is a 7 month old English Setter. We are unfortunately looking for a new home for him, as our work schedules have changed, and he requires much more time and attention than we are able to give him now.

We have had Rigby since he was 8 weeks old. He is not neutered, but he will be neutered before he goes home to new his family. He is a very friendly, silly, energetic puppy. He loves to run around and play with toys, and is very interactive and affectionate with us. He loves to cuddle, and is often curled up on the couch with (or without) us and enjoys snuggling before bedtime. He has a lot of personality, and loves his people with his whole heart.

Rigby is a very active, energetic doc and needs to have a large space to run around in. He is friendly with other dogs and would do well with another large breed/high energy dog. He likes cats but gets a little too excited and tries to chase them, so he may do best in a home without them. We have two cats who he loves, but they mostly steer clear of him because of his enthusiasm. Rigby has not spent time around children before, so we would not recommend placing him in a home with them.

Rigby knows his basic commands (in English). He’s a quick learner, and will try to learn just about anything for a treat. He is house broken and will notify you when he needs to go outside. He is also crate trained, but has struggled to settle in his crate when watched by other people. He is kept in his crate while we are out of the house (up to 4 hours or so), as he tries to chew and get into things if left out in a room. He also sleeps in his crate overnight.

He is still working on leash training, and can be difficult to walk around certain areas. We are still maintaining constant training while on walks to keep him engaged and reinforce good leash manners. He is very friendly and tends to pull towards other dogs, but walks well when he is in a quiet neighborhood. He cannot be walked off leash, as he does not have reliable recall yet.

Rigby is still learning to feel comfortable when left home alone. He also can struggle to settle when watched by other people or when he's in a new place. This can usually be avoided by building trust with him through time and training, and ensuring he receives proper exercise.

Rigby needs an owner who can provide him with sufficient one-on-one time and attention. He needs someone who can be firm with his commands and can work to build trust. With time and the right training and care, Rigby is a sweet, lovable boy.
