Meet Mary. A Shy, Sweet Survivor Ready for a Second Chance

Little Mary didn’t choose the street life, she simply showed up one day, heavily pregnant and heartbreakingly thin. We began feeding her and leaving fresh water every day. She disappeared for a week, and when she returned, no longer pregnant. Her body was exhausted, but our volunteer never saw her babies.

Time passed, and heartbreakingly, Mary became pregnant again. This time, once she had weaned her kittens, our volunteer was finally able to get her spayed. She was incredibly weak and unwell. At the vet, she was diagnosed with mycoplasma, a painful respiratory infection. She took her home to nurse her back to health and released her back into the community garden after her recovery.

Every day, she would peek her little head out when being called for meal times, but despite her loyalty, she looked… sad. Like she was waiting for more.

One afternoon, our volunteer found her lying silently, clearly in pain. She cried softly when she was touched. She was rushed her to the vet again—thankfully, with quick treatment, she recovered. But our volunteer knew that she couldn't let her go back to surviving outside, especially with summer approaching.

So now Mary lives inside, and slowly but surely, she's learning to trust and love. She's still shy with new people, but with her humans, she’s all soft purrs and gentle headbutts. She comes down from her favorite bathroom shelf just to rub against her humans, quietly meowing for affection. She now even climbs into their lap and asks for kisses!

Mary is a low-maintenance, easy-going girl. She sleeps through the day, enjoys playing at night, and never demands much—just a little love and someone to make her feel safe. She’s excellent with her litter box, drinks plenty of fresh water, and prefers dry food (especially after so many hard months of surviving on scraps). She’ll accept a bit of chicken now and then as a treat, but she’s not fussy at all.

She may be shy, and she’s still unsure of other cats, but Mary is truly one of those rare, gentle souls who just needs a quiet, loving home to finally rest in peace and safety. After all she’s been through, she deserves nothing less than the love she’s given me, tenfold.
