Amélie is looking for a unicorn adopter in the Netherlands

Meet Amélie — a stunning black and white cat with muted tones, a quirky personality and a sharp edge.

She was found alone and starving in a park in Bahrain, rummaging through trash for scraps. We don’t know how long she had been surviving like that, but we do know she had already given up on humans. After being rescued, Amélie spent over a month at the vet getting spayed, treated for mycoplasma, tested for everything under the sun, and eventually discharged to one of our experienced foster homes.

It’s there that her personality began to unfold — and where we realized that Amélie isn’t like most cats.

Amélie loves life on her own terms. She’s obsessed with birdwatching (and has been known to punch the window trying to catch them), gets the wildest zoomies you’ve ever seen, and dives headfirst into play sessions with her string toys and kickers. She zooms, she climbs, she chirps — and then she demands space.

Because here’s the truth: Amélie wants to be around you. She rubs against your legs. She likes your company. But she does not want to be touched. She has a clear, predictable trigger: pet her, and she will bite or scratch. Always. And no, she’s not playing. We don’t know what was done to her in the past to make her this way, but we’re certain it wasn’t kind.

Despite it all, Amélie is not feral or aggressive. She’s just a cat who has been deeply wronged — one who’s still figuring out how to feel safe again.

We’re looking for someone rare. Someone who can love a cat without needing to hold her. Someone patient, trauma-informed, experienced, and deeply compassionate. A calm home, no kids, no other pets. Just someone who will see her, understand her, and never give up on her.

She’s spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV and mycoplasma. Her adoption fee is €275, which goes toward her vet care and relocation from Bahrain.
