Edi (Ernie)

Edi is a young male dog rescued from Kızılcahamam, Ankara. His name comes from Sesame Street’s Ernie—and like his namesake, he’s cheerful, affectionate, and full of personality. When we found him, he was on the municipality’s pickup list, and we couldn’t let that happen. Since then, Edi has been safe, cared for, and showing us his gentle nature every day.

Personality & Home Life

Edi is a sweet, people-oriented dog who adores being close to his humans. His favorite thing in the world is snuggling and being loved. He’s crate-trained, walks well on leash, and can stay home alone for a few hours without problems.

He isn’t a barker and doesn’t chew on furniture. That said, he’s still working through some toilet training issues, so he needs structure and patience as he continues learning. His foster family is helping him rebuild confidence and consistency step by step.

Edi has a calm, loving energy at home. When things are peaceful, he’s at his best—relaxed, affectionate, and eager to please. He learns quickly through positive reinforcement and loves human attention more than anything else.

Social Behavior

Edi generally gets along with other dogs, but he can become reactive toward high-energy or anxious dogs, especially on leash. Since moving to his current foster home, where he lives with two very active Golden Retrievers, he’s shown clear signs of stress—reactivity outdoors and toilet accidents indoors.

Before that, he lived with cats and had no such problems. For this reason, we now believe Edi would do best in a calmer environment, ideally as the only dog in the home, or with one very quiet, stable canine companion.

He doesn’t have prey drive and has previously coexisted peacefully with cats.

What Kind of Home Edi Needs

Right now, we’re looking for a calm, structured home with no other dogs—or just one relaxed, balanced dog who won’t overwhelm him. An experienced or patient adopter would be ideal, someone willing to help Edi regain stability and trust through consistency and kindness.

He’s not the kind of dog who needs intense exercise or constant entertainment—what he needs is reassurance, predictability, and gentle attention. In return, you’ll get a dog who looks at you like you’re his whole world.

Current Progress & Challenges

Edi’s foster family is being wonderfully patient, working daily to help him through his stress. Crate training is being reintroduced to provide comfort and structure, and he’s responding positively. However, he still has occasional indoor accidents without a clear trigger, so anyone interested in adopting him should be willing to continue reinforcing toilet training with calm consistency.

These behaviors seem to be stress-related rather than behavioral problems. Once Edi feels secure again, we believe he’ll return to the calm, well-mannered boy he was in boarding facility where he stayed almost a year.
