Het is op zich een lief hondje die best wel luistert maar soms is hij agressief
Waarom is bij ons onbekend

Wij kunnen dit niet aan

Wij hebben hem zelf pas een paar dagen maar door mijn gezondheidsproblemen en het agressief zijn van Tobi kunnen wij hem niet bieden wat hij nodig heeft

Tobi heet alle vaccinaties gehad en heeft een Europees paspoort
Wij hebben Tobi gekregen via een particuliere verkoper via marktplaats

Over zijn gedrag kan ik niet veel zeggen alleen dat de vorige eigenaar met hem naar een gedragscursus is geweest, dit heeft de vorige eigenaar niet tegen ons verteld

Wanneer hij agressief is is lastig te omschrijven want vandaag deed hij dit zelf toen wij hem op wilden pakken om naar beneden te brengen wat al een paar dagen goed ging
Ook als we hem in de auto zetten en je gaat dan naast hem zitten dan is hij ook agressief naar ons toe

Wij kunnen helaas niet naar een gedragstherapeut gaan ivm mijn gezondheid
Ook hadden wij dit niet verwacht

Hij luistert goed naar de normale commando’s zoals zitten en liggen dat is absoluut geen probleem
Over zijn aggresief is het moeilijk om iets te omschrijven want je haalt hem aan zonder problemen en misschien na 5 minuten wordt hij aggresief als je hetzelfde doet
Zo ook namen wij hem mee in de auto om op visite te gaan en dat ging zeker niet verkeerd maar toen we naar huis gingen werd hij plotseling weer aggresief naar ons en waarom is onbekend voor ons want we deden niets verkeerd naar hem toe

Tobi – a neutered mixed-breed male, adopted, with a history of six previous home changes.

Consultation Summary:
The first consultation took place on July 30, 2025. Being aware of the dog's behavior, I implemented precautionary measures from the very beginning and started creating positive associations in a neutral setting – outside the home. By laying scent trails and placing treats along the path, Tobi followed my scent and quickly began to trust me. After an hour-long walk, he showed visible signs of trust and positive emotion.

When entering the apartment, I always entered first and invited him in while rewarding him with treats. During the entire consultation, there were no incidents of aggression toward me, although I remained cautious with every movement. We also conducted a preliminary health interview and reviewed the circumstances under which previous biting incidents occurred.

I introduced a scent game involving a trail of toys and treats, which Tobi engaged in calmly and without any signs of aggression. However, when his favorite toy was presented, we witnessed an immediate behavioral shift. This toy acted as a strong trigger – not as a resource-guarding issue, but rather an obsessive-compulsive, manic fixation, even when the toy was 2–3 meters away.

Recommendation 1:
Complete removal of this toy is advised, as it elicits a heightened aggressive response. Additionally, all squeaky toys should be avoided, as they stimulate the predatory instinct and may cause redirected aggression toward people.

Further Observations:
According to the guardian, Tobi shows aggressive behavior up to 2/3 times per month, with trying to bite. The dog has reinforced this strategy over time. In most cases, attacks occur without prior warning signals such as growling, lip lifting, or baring of teeth. (But we are not giving up 🙂)

In my opinion, the aggression is situational – likely a mixture of fear-based and offensive aggression, rooted in poor early socialization and prior mistreatment. Tobi is fearful of sudden movements, people, and dogs in close proximity, and shows distress in response to stimuli such as vacuum cleaners and mops.

Behavioral Recommendations:

Eliminate all squeaky toys.

- Introduce scent-based games and desensitization to everyday sounds (e.g., footsteps).

- Maintain safe distance from dogs during walks

- Organize controlled group sessions in a dog park to implement counter-conditioning and desensitization to people moving quickly – starting at a distance and gradually decreasing it.

- Desensitization training for vacuum cleaners and mops.
