Hazel

Hazel first appeared in a neighborhood as a young female dog, either after being left there or released by a shelter—we’ll never know exactly how she got there. What was clear, however, was that she wasn’t safe. She faced constant threats from people in the area, so a volunteer stepped in to give her a chance at a better future.

She was taken to the vet to be spayed, where it was discovered that she was in the very early stages of pregnancy. The spay procedure therefore also ended the pregnancy, preventing another litter of puppies from being born into an uncertain life on the streets.

After her surgery, Hazel moved to a dog sanctuary. Although she was finally safe, life there was quiet and limited. She spent most of her days in a kennel, looking forward to the moments when...
